    The Heritage Investors’ Mission

“We exist to help our clients and their teams reach their goals; one conversation, one meeting, and one action at a time.”

Heritage Investors is not your typical financial planning and investing firm. We are committed to going above and beyond in the pursuit of helping you become, and stay, financially secure. That is why we do not consider our clients as strictly a business endeavor; we call our clients friends. We form lasting relationships, both professionally and personally. Knowing you personally also gives us insights into needs you and your family might have (both now and in the future) that are not in the charts or gleaned from reporting meetings. For this reason, most of the people working with Heritage come to us as client referrals.

    At Heritage, we value:

    • “Stewardship toward clients first” – We are client-centric meaning the core of our business is serving as a fiduciary to all of our clients. Being a fiduciary requires being bound ethically to act in the other’s best interest.
    • “Growing the pie” – When we work as a team to grow the business, we all benefit from the team’s success.
    • “Turning the turtle” – When you see something that needs to be done, do it. Do not wait to be assigned. Do not expect that someone else will take care of it
    • “A leaders-eat-last mentality” – As leaders, we will put the needs of our team above our own.
    • “Not touching the marshmallow” –When you choose not to take the mini marshmallow in front of you for instant gratification, the reward ends up being larger for delayed gratification.
    • “Ability and attitude are greater than ‘alphabet soup’” – We take greater stock in humble, hungry, and “people-smart” attitudes and skills than the educational degrees and certifications behind someone’s name.
    • “Teaching others to fish” – Rather than being the sole resource that everyone depends on and would be devastated if anything happened to, teach others how to gather for themselves.
    • “Diving to the bottom” – Whenever there is a problem, don’t just look for the easy fix. Dive to the bottom to understand what the deeper issue is and how it affects everyone and everything first
    • “Find a way” – Be a “find-a-way, make-a-way person.” There are always solutions!
    • “Finding solutions to problems” – If you see a challenge, don’t bring it to the attention of others until you have determined a solution. Be solution-oriented!
    • “’We will win’ attitudes” – We have an abundance mentality! We can go farther together than alone. “The key to effective giving is to stay open to receiving.” (The Go-Giver Law of Receptivity)

The knowledge and expertise we offer helps to keep you focused so that you are as close to your hopes and dreams as possible at the end of your journey.

    The Portfolio Management Process

What Is Our Portfolio Management Process?

Our relationship begins with an intro phone call. Once we’ve talked and agree that working with one another is in each other’s best interest, we take over. The process of Portfolio Management consists of two aspects: an initial expectations meeting and the management of your portfolio. This one-on-one meeting is used to determine your goals, set expectations, and start building your accounts. The actual Portfolio Management happens behind the scenes once we’ve taken control. You can rest assured that we are building and managing your accounts according to the goals established in your initial meeting. We take our fiduciary obligation to our clients very seriously and we are always working with their best interests in mind.

    Portfolio Management Process Flow Chart

The Reoccuring Process of Portfolio Management

    EVALUATION

The first step after we take over is to look at your portfolio’s quality, through a fiduciary lens, to see if there is room for improvement within the underlying holdings. Using the data from your statements, we determine whether it can be improved upon. Here, we examine the numbers gleaned from our Data Gathering, Risk Tolerance, and the discussions we have during the Goal Setting meeting, ensuring that your portfolio risk is aligned with the goals you outlined.

    RESEARCH & REGULATIONS

Listening to what the market and regulations are telling us allows us to rebuild the portfolio and purchase new assets. Based on your situation, this could mean a complete overhaul or making a few tactical moves if there are tax constraints. For example, we might need to tactically rebuild a portfolio over the course of several years if it contained a considerable amount of taxable gains. Because of the tax constraints, we would want to make small changes to your portfolio. However, if it is an IRA, major changes may be necessary.

    TAX STRATEGIES

Considering the tax implications involved with your portfolio is an important step with a lasting impact on your ability to build wealth. Here, we will coordinate with your CPA to create and implement various tax strategies that fit your individual needs. These strategies are designed to limit your tax burden while creating opportunities to build wealth. However, there are many moments in your life that will impact your tax liability. Therefore, as these moments occur, and as your personal net worth increases these strategies will need to be revised to keep you on the path toward your financial goals.

    MONITORING & REBALANCING

After the implementation phase, we will review your progress and adjust the data in the business valuation software packages. You will receive an updated appraisal on an annual basis. The updated numbers are then factored into your net worth statement. As we review the data, your advisor could suggest further adjustments. Because the business value growth process is constant and ongoing, many of our clients choose to repeat the cycle once they’ve completed it, refining even more.

    REVIEW MEETINGS

These meetings allow you to review the progress of your portfolio, and understand how it is on track to reaching your goals. Additionally, we will verify that you’re able to access your accounts and are receiving your statements and newsletters. During these meetings, you will also have the opportunity to update your financial plan based on changes in your life.

    Let’s Talk…

We would love to explain our portfolio management process in greater detail with you, answering any questions you may have with a complimentary, no-obligation consultation. Begin moving toward your financial goals by giving us a call 865-690-1155 or scheduling a meeting with our team.

    The Business Value Growth Process

    The Business Value Growth Process

We believe it is vital to grow the value of your business in conjunction with your personal wealth. The idea behind this is simple. You must have clearly defined personal financial goals to know how much your business must grow (and sell for) to meet those goals, i.e., “bridge the value gap“.

This is the driving principle behind Heritage Business Advisors developing this holistic financial growth process, combining personal wealth management with your business’s and driving them toward their common goals.

Our relationship begins with a phone meeting. During this call, we will discuss your personal and business goals, as well as the catalyst driving the need to grow the value of your business. Typically, this introduction takes about 15 minutes. Because the purpose of this meeting is to get to know each other, there is no obligation to move forward.

However, if there’s mutual value in the new relationship, and we all agree to proceed, the process can officially begin.

Once we’ve decided to continue our relationship, some paperwork will be necessary to begin the management process. First, you will need to fill out an Engagement Agreement to make it official. The Heritage team will then request some of your past personal records to better assess and create an action plan moving forward.

In addition to your personal records, the Heritage team of advisors will request business records. These records requests could include your previous tax filings from the last five years, operations manuals, a written business plan, employee profiles, organizational charts, etc. The information contained in these documents is necessary for us to fully and accurately assess the current health of your business.

personal financial planning to business planning

    Business Value Growth

Once everyone is clear about personal goals and how your business can support achieving them, we transition into business value growth. Your personal financial planning doesn’t stop here but is 1 of the 2 integral pieces in reaching those goals. Here, we will continue working toward your goals through one-on-one meetings and adjustments with your personal financial planner alongside those meetings with your value growth advisor. You will get to know your value growth advisor very well and they will work diligently to help you through every step of the process.

    ASSESSMENT

We will begin the Business Value Growth process with a benchmark business assessment. During this evaluation, your advisor will examine eight key areas of your business. Once the assessment is complete, your business will be assigned a starting position. Additionally, you and your advisor will have a clearer indication of which areas of your business need the most attention. This allows us to know where you are now, to help shape a plan to get you where you want to be.

    ALIGNMENT

Increasing your business’s value is a lengthy process. As you improve in one area, other areas will react, creating the need for adjustments. Knowing how to pivot from one area to another without losing the momentum gained in previous areas can be challenging. During the alignment phase, you will begin working on each area of your business through strategic planning.

Your advisor will guide you through our strategic planning workshop, where you will choose three objectives to work on from the eight key areas for a determined amount of time. For each objective, you will identify three tactics to achieve them. Similarly, you will choose three action steps for each tactic. As you complete each action step, you should move closer to successfully achieving your objective.

After each strategic planning session, you will review its impact on each area of your business. While you should see small improvements at the end of each session, it will be necessary to complete several strategic planning cycles to reach your overall goals.

    IMPLEMENTATION

Depending on your individual needs, we have multiple tiers of consultation. These consultations could occur up to four times per month. If your goal is exit planning, the meetings will focus on updating the data points that move you toward your exit. For those who are working towards value growth, the benchmark value of your company will be assessed upon the completion of each strategic planning cycle, as well as annually. Clients using our strategic planning service are guided through the movement of their plans, monitoring and correcting as needed.

The results of these improvements to the business’s asset value are constantly moved into the personal planning side, contributing to the owner’s overall net worth.

    REVIEWS

After the implementation phase, we will review your progress and adjust the data in the business valuation software packages. You will receive an updated appraisal on an annual basis. The updated numbers are then factored into your net worth statement. As we review the data, your advisor could suggest further adjustments. Because the business value growth process is constant and ongoing, many of our clients choose to repeat the cycle once they’ve completed it, refining even more.

    Investment Portfolio Management

The Bread & Butter of Investing

The modern work/life balance leaves you with precious little time. Between managing your career, your family, and your household, finding time to properly research and invest seems impossible. We understand.

That’s why we take the time to know you as a person, rather than just a client, so we can better understand your needs and financial goals. Whether you’re preparing for your children’s education or simply consolidating accounts, we are here to help you make your goals a reality.

At Heritage, we align the financial markets to your specific financial, tax, and risk management goals. Our team works tirelessly, researching quality investments we believe will yield the highest possible returns with the lowest possible costs. We then present our research to you in everyday terms, encouraging feedback and ensuring you feel confident in your individual plan.

Heritage Investors’ Style of Investment Portfolio Management

Investment Portfolio Management by our highly educated team is for individuals who trust and understand that there is value in experts handling this area. It’s for people who place a premium on time and personal care. Handling your own investments requires hours of research, constant market monitoring, and analysis that your busy life may not allow.

Additionally, you may understand investment technologies or possess the knowledge of how, and when, to course-correct with market changes, but if you’re like most people, you could struggle to detach your emotions from your investments.

That’s why we share the management philosophy of Berkshire Hathaway’s Warren Buffett who once said:

“Lethargy, bordering on sloth, remains the cornerstone of our investment style.”

Once the research has been conducted, we build a strategy and stick to the plan. Seldom are there successes in buying and selling based on a hunch or on knee-jerk reactions. Instead, Heritage utilizes proven research surrounding Target Band rebalancing. Simply put, target-band rebalancing is a tool used to ensure your portfolio doesn’t become too heavy in one position or too light in another. The target-band monitors, purchases, and sells your stocks in real-time, and it does so with razor-sharp efficiency. A target-band analyzes the various positions and sets a strategic target so that when the position reaches that target, the target-band automatically sells the position and buys another.
